the Mac. I've been recording my important client input
calls for years, using cassette tape-based phone
recording devices and dealing with mechanical failures,
the limitations of the technology and a cumbersome

"As a journalist I have looked for a
product like SoloRecord for at long time. It covers my
professional needs very well, because it is possible to
record every phone call automatically - I don't have to
have to check the batteries of an old fashioned tape
recorder, nor the position of the tape, the position of
switches, VU-meters or the wear on connectors. The
software is simple to install and use, and the sound
quality is as good as you can get from any phone call.
It also stores conversations in compressed files that do not
easily fill your storage. And - perhaps the best of it -
it puts a watermark on the files, so you can be sure
that the sound of an interview has not been edited. That
is quite handy when journalism sometimes gets tough.
The only difficulty is getting hold of
one of the particular, outdated Ethernet-hubs, which
seems to be the simplest solution to the hardware-part.
And it is really not that difficult. I
also like the fact, that the software demands very
little of the computer resources. It runs in fact in the
same pc, that I use for my daily writing. And that is a
double benefit, because when I travel, I always use one
of the free pc-softphones instead of the ATA at home.
